About LOSW

The program is unique to the opera world in giving the singer a realistic view into breaking into the German theater system and is staffed those who have succeeded. (Please click on the Staff link). It is not simply a way for a few conservatory teachers to spend a summer in Europe, but rather a way to lead singers into careers in Germany and beyond.

LOSW 2008

Our facilities consist of two large town-houses, a spacious garden, with its own tea pavilion, in the heart of historic Weimar. The front building dates from 1906 and has been renovated for accommodation, while the back building dating from 1884, is for studio space and rehearsals. The facilities of the German National Theater will also be made available for part of the program.

Each day begins with German language and diction, followed by masterclasses and individual coaching. An accompanist is on call throughout the day to work with the singers on personal repertoire, and coach the role sung in the fully staged, piano accompanied and costumed performances of Le Nozze di Figaro in July and, Cosi fan Tutte in August and September. Singers will leave with suitable resumé in German, having sung for an agent and performed a role, all in the most historic cultural city in Germany.

Possible day excursions include nearby cities such as Leipzig, Erfurt, Eisenach (the birthplace of Bach), the Wartburg (where Tannhaüser is set), Dresden, Bayreuth and Nuremberg.
